Universal Studios Orlando - An issue at security
My son is working a cheer and dance competition there this weekend and is from Amarillo, TX. He carries a picket knife that my dad, his grandfather, gave him.
He uses it for various things for work as a tool. It was in his backpack and for the past two days has been a non-issue. This morning a security guard at the main gate gave him an option to either take it to his car (he flew there and doesnโt have a car there) or the guard would take it and he would not get it back. Now I understand why it may have been taken at the gate but I DO NOT understand why you canโt give it back when he leaves to go back to his room after working today.
That makes no sense at all!! Thatโs basically stealing and from what my son said, he was really rude about it. There is no reason why he should not be able to get that knife back this evening when he leaves. I would appreciate an explanation of this.
That item is sentimental and was not and has never been used as a weapon. Itโs a pocket knife for crying out loud.

You're kidding right? I just looked online and it's INSANELY clear that you cannot take knives of any kind on property.
If he was going to be working there he should have known.
It is NOT the responsibility of security to hang on to everyone's belongings when they are too stupid to make sure they don't bring something in that isn't allowed. Not to mention anyone who thinks bringing a pocket knife into an amusement park is allowed is living in a different century.
I think if you were not so foolish as to mistake being told you cannot have your way as rude people will take you more seriously and be more on your side.
You must realize by now that those with no common sense are in charge of security at places like Universal Studios, airports, etc. I hope your son refused and left the park or made some other arrangements instead of capitulating to the genius working the front gate.
